Air Cadets come to the Aid of the Ambulance Service

E-mail Print PDF

When approached by the East Midlands Ambulance Service for help, the Stapleford Air Cadet Squadron was only too pleased to give them what they needed.

The Ambulance Service were looking for space to deploy their Incident Support Unit equipment and knowing that 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron of the Air Training Corps have extensive grounds, the Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Allan Munns, was approached. On accepting, the Squadrons Commander, saw the opportunity for the cadets to see the Ambulance Service in action as well as being able to assist in this worthwhile project.

Working under floodlights, the Incident Team erected a complete decontamination unit equipped with heaters, showers and full decontamination facilities including Paramedic treatment areas. The whole unit is self sufficient with generators, hot air blowers and water pumps.

Not only did the occasion give the Ambulance Service the space to deploy in a secure area, it gave them an opportunity to train and, Allan said, “we are here to help in the local community and if the cadets can benefit as well it makes worthwhile”

If any one between the age of 13 and 17 years who feel they could enjoy this active and varied lifestyle, please contact 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron, 149 Ilkeston Road, Stapleford, or call on 0115 949 1360 any Monday or Thursday Evening.
